Watch: Charles Leclerc goes round the outside of George Russell to pull off a stellar high-speed overtake in the Chinese GP

The Chinese GP has returned to the Formula 1 calendar after a hiatus of five years. The re-painted track in addition to unexpected rains made it difficult for the drivers to maneuver around the Shanghai circuit. Regardless, Ferrari has been showcasing good performance and racing action around the circuit. During the race, Charles Leclerc sealed a great overtake on George Russell by the tenth lap of the race.

Mercedes’ ground-effect era struggles have put them at a great disadvantage against the rival teams. This was evident from Charles Leclerc‘s easy overtake on George Russell at the Chinese GP. Around the tenth lap of the race, Leclerc’s DRS opened up wide and provided him with a great shot at overtaking. The Monegasque secured a stellar high-speed overtake around the first corner of the circuit by using the outside line and secured a P6 position.

Ferrari hasn’t faced any dire issues in the team yet since the season started and showcased a smooth sailing performance. Maranello has been consistently scoring good points since the beginning and seems to be right behind Red Bull. As compared to the Italian constructor, Mercedes doesn’t have a great track record for the 2024 season.

Charles Leclerc’s stellar move helped him move past Oscar Piastri by Lap 13

Charles Leclerc has been breezing up the pecking order following a great performance from the SF-24. Leclerc’s move over George Russell helped him enable a chance at moving further up the pecking order. the Monegasque drove vigorously ahead of the Mercedes and enabled an overtake by the second DRS zone around the Shanghai circuit.

Charles Leclerc stuck to the inside line of Oscar Piastri by Lap 13 to potentially overtake him. The 26-year-old committed to the move and easily passed the Australian driver. Hence, the Monegasque sealed a P4 spot after the overtake. Leclerc will continue to battle out on the track to not only try to score a podium finish but potentially a race victory.

The Ferrari drivers will continue to battle it out on the track and continue to score points. Such performances from the drivers have enabled the Italian constructor to extend the lead over the rival teams in the constructor championship.
