Washington Commanders GM Adam Peters Reveals Thoughts on Trading #2 Overall Pick
Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

It is one week until the Washington Commanders have to decide what they do in the NFL Draft. Right now, they hold the second overall pick. Rumors have been swirling as to who the team will pick and if there is any chance they would trade down.

Well, Washington Commanders GM Adam Peters commented on trading down. Read below to find out what he said.

Adam Peters Not Interested in Trading Down

Peters spoke to several reporters during a press conference earlier today. Jon Keim of ESPN was one of the reporters that Peters spoke to. According to Keim, Peters revealed the chances of the Commanders trading the #2 overall pick. Here is what he had to say:

“We feel great about staying at No. 2. I don’t see a whole lot of scenarios trading down.”

Notable Washington Commanders Meetings

The Commanders have met with a few notable players this week. Leading up to the draft, these are likely going to be the final meetings, as the team focuses in on who they will take with the second overall pick. So, who have the Commanders met.

Washington met with two notable quarterbacks in this year’s draft. These are Drake Maye from North Carolina and Jayden Daniels from LSU. With Maye, the Commanders scheduled two straight meetings.

Why are these meetings so notable? There is a near consensus Maye or Daniels will be the second quarterback taken off of the board.

The first overall pick seems to be spoken for. Right now, that is held by the Chicago Bears. Considering they traded QB Justin Fields to the Pittsburgh Steelers, all signs seem to point to them taking a quarterback. That quarterback is likely going to be Caleb Williams from USC.

Needing a Quarterback

What is one thing that you can take away from this article? It is that Washington needs a new quarterback. This is especially the case if you have noticed what the team has done in the offseason so far.

For starters, the Commanders already traded QB Sam Howell to the Seattle Seahawks. Plus, their other notable quarterback from last season, Jacoby Brissett, is now with the New England Patriots. This creates a significant opening at the quarterback position. When noting both of these moves plus Peters’ quote from earlier today, it will be shocking if the Commanders do not use the second overall pick on a quarterback.
